One of my friend (Canadian citizen), got married to american and filed for GC. It took 20 months for him.
another friend (Canadian citizen) too got married recently to american he got GC approval in JUST TWO weeks. Actually his approval letter asked to complete the finger printing and then proceed for GC stamping next day.
I thought only after FP is done, GC approvals are possible.
