extending work permit

Hi,
I am currently on an exempt work visa (after Master's studies in Canada) and hoping to get the work permit extended. I have applied for Canadian PR but my work visa expires in April end. My employer is extending all the support that I need. Is there any one else here who has been thru a similar situation. Any suggestions might help. Thnx.
