Expired Passport, overstayed visa, no valid picture id

I came to the US in 1987 on a visitor visa and overstayed visa. By now my passport is expired and I cannot get a new one from the embassy since they want to see legal immigration papers.

I married my boyfriend of 13 years (US Citizen) in January 2005 and we want to apply for adjustment of status.

I also lost my driver license in Oct. 2004 because of a DUI. It was reinstated in March 2005, but I cannot get the original back (they destroy it now) and when I tried to get a duplicate license I was asked for my SS #. (I don't have one). I was told I should get a letter from the Social Security Office that shows that I am not eligible for a SS# right now and come back with that letter a valid passport and a valid I-94 (both of which are expired).

I need some help! Does anybody out there have some advice for me? The driver license was my only valid picture id that I had.

Novice question???????

Christa,
How many years of being undocumented alien. How come they did not deport you for DUI in 2004??

Thanks for all responses! it's 17 years since I overstayed the visa. My lawyer for the DUI got the Judge to give me 360 days probation instead of the required 1 year sentence that it will not interfer with immigration proceedings.
As far as I know, everything under 1 year (Jail, probation) will not raise the red flag with immigration. I am no attorney, so please everybody double check on this statement.
By the way what does EAD exactly stand for?
Thanks again!
