Hello all,

I am going to file for naturalization on 11/10/2009
My birthplace country's passport will expire on 5/15/2010

Let's assume that my interview appointment will be after 5/15/2010 and I do not renew my passport. Does it affect the interview process at all? In other word having a current passport during the interview and after that till I receive my US passport is required?
Please advise and thanks in advance for your attention.

US citizenship process has nothing to do with home country's passport validity except when IO verifies the stamps for out-of-country trips. So, you are fine. Keep the passport safe even after US citizenship because that is part of your history

I took my expired passport to the interview and everything went fine. So don't worry about the expired passport

It won't affect your N400 process. But I still advise you to renew your passport for yoru current citizenship if it is convinient. Anything can happen
you can not be 100% sure when you can get your US citizenship and you
may still need your current passport for travel.

It is also interssting what will happen if you apply for renew of your current passport but before you current country issue or renew it you get US citizenship. If your current country does not allow dual citizenship, do you need to stop this renew process?

Yes, my country (Iran) accepts it. Actually, if I want to use my US passport to travel to Iran, which is legal for Iranian immigration services too, I have to obtain a visa which is unlikely to get with a US Passport!

Thanks guys, have a great weekend :)
