Expired Green Card

Hello,
My green card expired and I didnt apply for renewal on time. I was eligible for natrualization and applied for natrualization before applying for my GC renewal:
1. Would the time since my GC expired, and before I applied for the renewal (5 months) be considered as an "illegal" stay in US?
2. I got my biometrics appointment for natrualization last week and got that done but the question is will not having a valid GC for those 5 months create issues for me in obtainining my citizenship?

You are a non-conditional permanent resident who had a 10-year card, right? If so, your permanent resident status doesn't expire, even if the card does. As long as you maintain residence in the US and don't commit some deportable offense, you remain a lawful permanent resident forever, with all the rights, including the ability to live and work in the US. Even if you never applied for green card renewal for years and never got an I-551 stamp, you would still be "legal". It's just that you don't have proof of your status after the card expires.

It should not create any problems for naturalization.
