Expedited passport still not received after 6 weeks...suggestions ?

I applied for my son's passport on Aug 25th expedited, I submitted my natz certificate and his birth certificate. The guy in the post office where I applied refused to take my son's green card.

After three weeks since applying I made several calls to the national passport agency and finally I was told they need to see his gc. So I sent it in. Now it's 6 weeks since I applied and they say his application is still on hold .

I've sent in a complaint letter to the director of the passport agency last week. Today I sent out an e-mail to my senator.

Is there anything else I can do to wake up these m***ns ?

Its not really the fault of the passport agency that your son's application was delayed; I suggest you complain to the post office that gave you bad advice regarding the need for your son's GC. If everything had been sent together, you'd have the passport by now.

As it is, I suspect the GC and remainder of the application haven't yet met up. All you can do it contact the passport agency and see if they can figure out what's gone where.

You should have cancelled your intention to send it through this Post office. You made a misjudgement by going ahead anyway. Here is what the instructions to the Passport form says, and you could have as well shown him the instructions before walking away (and is in bold on the form and underlined as well):

1) If You Claim Citizenship Through Naturalization of Parent(s). Submit the Certificate(s) of Naturalization of your parent(s), your
foreign birth certificate, and proof of your admission to the United States for permanent residence.

Thanks for taking the time to post, what I'm looking for at this point is constructive suggestions on how I can get my son's passport as soon as possible.

Discussing who's at fault and what could/should have been done doesn't really help.

I know you guys mean well...no offense intended. :)

Appointment at the Passport Agency

I am not in "your shoes" (since I am not a US citizen yet) however the following may be of interest to you:
- It does not seem at this point that mailing anything (such as your son's Green Card) would help, it would most likely be lost
- The most efficient way of linking your son's Green Card with his stalled Passport application would be to discuss this with an Agent from the State Department. This person would be able to look up your son's application, collect the GC, hand over to you a receipt for the collected Green Card and restart the process.

The best way in my opinion of accomplishing the latter would be for you to make an appointment at the Passport Agency to do all of this in person. Even if the paperwork (passport application) is not physically present at the Passport Agency, they should be able to track your son's application. It may be worth giving it a shot.

My 2 cents.

Unfortunately I think dandan123 has already mailed the GC. I hope it is not lost. I am afraid this problem is not going to have an easy solution. Perhaps it would have been better to ask for the application to be withdrawn, the documents sent back and have reapplied. All this is in hindsight, of course, and doesn't help much. The only thing that can be done now is to call them, call congressman and hope that the GC shows up and is linked to the passport application.

My intention was only to allude to the fact that DOS is not responsible for your state of affairs. That said, my guess is that you make an appointment (if your travel date is less than 14 days or you need a visa) and make a journey to your closest regional office with parents naturalization certificate and your son's green card.

I think the problem is that dandan123 has already sent his child's GC (that's from a previous post in another thread). The problem now is how to "marry" the application with the GC through the DOS system. It is not clear who/when is going to be able to do this. On hindsight it would have been better to deliver the GC in a more secure way, or with a clear chain of ownership. Anyway, I hope DOS figures things out and doesn't lose the GC.

I think I'll wait for one more week and if nothing happens go to a passport agency.

Thanks for all your comments.

I'm puzzled however by that most of you think it's no ones fault :) other than mine of course.

1. At the post office we do not have the authority to tell the guy at the counter what to do. He/she scrutinizes our applications and asks for the required documents. They are responsible to see everything is ok..not us.
2. The post office is a government agency working hand in hand with the passport agency, the passport agency is responsible to see that they are trained properly in the right procedures. We have no control over that.
3. If for some reason an application is sent in without correct documents wouldn't you think they would return it or at the least write a letter informing the applicant ? No such communication was ever received by me.
4. The agent at the national passport information phone line asked me to send the GC to the passport agency, which I did.

So as you can see, I've been following instructions given to me by those responsible for the whole process and yet somehow it seems that it's my fault .

:D

Hi dandan123,

I don't think you're at fault here. I think you're a victim of bureaucracy here. I hope everything works well at the end.

Good luck.
