Examples of society memberships

Can someone give me examples of society memberships (and the type of membership within that organization) that could be considered as meeting the "membership in societies" requirements for EA or OR? I am specifically looking for Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering fields, but I will get an idea even if your example is in other fields. Thanks.

My rule of thumb is: "If there's a membership fee it's likely that the society does not meet the requirement". All professional societies are definitely out. Couple of weeks ago we settled the matter of Sigma Xi - it's out. This may actually be one of te toughest requirements to fulfill as it seems you actually have to be elected a member. So National Academy of Sciences would be one that fits.

IEEE is one such society. While basic membership is available to everyone who is an EE, a senior membership requires nomination from peers and/or publications in IEEE periodicals. A senior membership in IEEE will definitely qualify.
