Evidence to support I-94 extension? Bank statement?

Our lawyer suggested we get a bank statement that would show my wife has enough funds to support herself here but I would like to know what form the UICS require this to be. Because since my wife isn't in the country of her bank right now obtaining a statement is problematic. However she has online banking and can obtain something that shows her current balances.

If I print this out will this be acceptable to support her I-94 extension?

I have always submitted the original printed statement from the Bank. I think it is important to be as convincing as possible.
 
Overstay better than extension?

I was actually advised by a lawyer that it would be better to overstay than to file for an extension. If I wanted to apply for a greencard later on.

"As long you stay in US legally and do not violate any terms of the visa you are on, you will not get into any trouble while applying for greencard, just because you applied for visa extension."
