Evidence of Support

Hi, I've won the first round of DV2006 and have sent the forms back to Kentucky - but if I do get an interview at the consulate I'm concerned about my ability to meet the requirements for evidence of support. I have no sponsor in the US, no savings, no property, bonds, shares, etc. But I have a very good employment history in a specialised field and a very good chance of employment in the US. I wanted to wait and see if I got the visa before I started lining up a job in the US (I work in such a small industry that my colleagues here in Australia will inevitably find out). But it sounds like I have no other option. Are there any other options?
Thanks.

Hi there,

As far as I know, the only way to show evidence of financial support and proof that you will not become a public charge is by having a job offer in the United States, a sponsor who is willing to sign an affidavit of support or at least $10,000 - $12,000 USD.

You might want to look into the affidavit of support further though because you might be able to have a sponsor in your own country instead of in the Unites States - and if that is the case, you might be in luck if you have someone in Australia who is willing to sign such form.

Hi Oceania,

I think your evidence of support will depends on if you are married or single. If you are married, you should at least have about $10:000 or have a sponsor in the States or have a sponsor in Australia or properties. If you are single you dont really need a sponsor, if you have been working with your firm for long, you will need your bank statements, evidence of working there, and at least $4000, ( that was how much I had) and I got the visa. Wish you luck :)
