Evidence of filing tax returns?

My wife has a merriage-based GC interview. Among other papers the INS letter says to bring tax returns for the last 3 years with evidence of filing. What can serve as such evidence? And how picky they are about having it (there's one year when we do not have any canceled checks or such)? Her interview is in Cherry Hill, NJ.

Thanks.

You can call IRS ask for tax transcripts. If you want urgent they will fax them.
They need your SSN and last year taxable income for your identification.

more info on Tax Transcript.

You can order your Tax transcript for the past three years either by completing
and mailing Form 4506-T (http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf) or calling (800) 829-1040
and following the prompts in the recorded message.
There is no charge for the transcript and you should receive it in 2 to 3 weeks from the time IRS receives your request (if you order by mail).
