Dear all,

thinking about going through EB-11, 12 or NIW. Please help me to determine how good my chances are. Here are some highlights of my qualification:

1) Ph.D. in Biomedical engineering from a Canadian university
2) 6 published papers -- 5 first author and 1 third author. all are in good/excellent journals
3) some of the papers are widely cited (one is cited 30 times since published in 1999)
4) served as a reviewer for one of the papers that I published my papers with
5) won nationwide scholarship (Canadian government) as a graduate student based on research merits
6) won nationwide post-doc fellowship (Canadian government)
7) 12 published meeting/conference abstracts
8) my ph.d. boss was on the front page of several Canadian prominient newspapers which reported our research (also broadcast live TV interview in the news)
9) will be able to find some good references, most of which from Canada.

your feedback is highly appreciated. Thanks

1) OK
2) Good
3) Good
4) You will need to prove this, of course
5-6) NSERC, I assume. Hard to get. You will have to explain this
7) Yup
8) Irrelevant. Your boss is not the one petitioning
9) Be aware that the letters are not normal recommendation letters

I think your chances are good. What are you doing right now?Everything will depend on how your petition is put together and if you can convince a reviewer that you meet all the legal requirements of these petitions.

I am currently doing a post-doc. Will this adversely affect my chance? also by my boss in the media coverage, wouldn't it reflect how good our work is? just my thoughts. Yes, both awards are from NSERC, do not know how to explain to the INS though.

If your boss was the subject of the interview, then it is *his* work, not yours. Please recognize that this petition is a legal document and will be judged as such.

The more experience you have, the better. You might be able to get away with a post-doc if you are doing it in a big lab and document this fact.

You really are at the beginning stages. There is really a lot of good information out there, starting with the posts in this forum. I think a consultation with an attorney would be worth the money.

As for the scholarships, explain how difficult it is to get them and get some of your referees to explain this in their letters.
