If you don't have any relatives in Europe, what country is easy to go with Re-entry permit and GC.
I need to get a schengen Visa to visit my wife. This stupid Austrian Embassy is giving me a hard time.

Nimche,

I don't have experience of applying a Schengen visa with Re-entry permit, but I have applied for Schegen visa with RTD both at the Netherlands Consulate and the Greece Consulate.

I did not experience any issues with them. I provided all the requested materials, and no question ever raised.

My feeling is that the Netherlands Consulate is more oganized. It website even tell you whether or not you would need a visa based on the type of travel doc you will travel on. On it webpage, re-entry permit and RTD are actually listed as one of the options.

You can check out this website, http://www.netherlands-embassy.org/visainquiry.asp

I am assuming your wife will also visit that country from (she is not resident there).

If so, the first consideration should be your wife's visa: which country will issue her a visa?

You can always try one of the ex-soviet republics: they are supposed to be pretty easy. Or even other eastern european nations.

Good luck.

Floyd you are smart no doubt.
Here more detail about the case:

I had an ID here "nasrmobin" before but I got into a problem which Mr. wantmygcnow had not responded to any of my question.

2nd, my wife resides in Iran- She got the Visa already for Austria. I have my relative which sent us two invitations, one for each of us.
Now, I am in San Diego and I called the Austrian Embassy several times. The lady which is in charge of Visa department is kind of rude and does not understand some of the issue.
Their requirement for whoever wants to apply for a Visa is, to go to embassy in person. There is not way to send the application in mail.

Now the problem is I told her I will accept all these craps that you have told me so far, can I depart from Berlin-Germany on the way back to the USA. She said are you going to stay in Austria or Germany the most of the time in your trip and I said Austria and she goes then I need to see an Invitation letter from your relatives in Germany too:O and she hung up on me.
I don’t have anybody in Germany folks to give me the damn invitation.

Have you guys ever reserved any flight ticket for like a week and then purchased it? As far as I have learned in this country you have to buy it before 48 hours of reservation. Just to let you know I don’t have a travel agency and usually but tickets online with no hassle.

What do you guys suggest? Please?

The reason we want to go to Germany is my Wife's relatives are there and she wants to sped some times with and it would be more expensive if we go Germany and then go back to Austria.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Nas, Sorry i didnt know it was you. Well in your case, since your wife has a visa for Austria already..stop the madness and go to Germany and take the damn train to Austria. If Austrian people give you tough time in giving a visa, do that..otherwise try for a visa. You made a mistake of telling these stupid embassy folks that you planned to visit germany too. Just say Austria and thats it. They are very picky and like to throw issuing a visa to the next embassy for no reason.

Also your wife's relatives are your relatives in immigration sense. You can write up an invitation on their name and ask them to fax a copy of their residence permit or passport to attach it. You can write a simple letter saying "

Hi nas, this your wife's aunt's mother's sister and I would like you to visit me. Attached is the copy of my residence permit to give the bastards at the embasy."

Also put that you will pay for your trip NOT your realtives or they will ask them to go to the immigration office and get a support form which is a hassel in a country like germany.

As for the ticket. Call united airlines and say that you want to "hold" the ticket and not buy it. You can offically hold tickets for 3 days with a reservation without paying for it. So the price will be like 3000 dollars but its only for the embassy. You are not fooling anyone. If they look up the reservation, it will be valid. DO NOT PURCHASE TICKETS as they say so because lot of times they dont issue a visa and it goes to waste.

And your goal is to get a visa. You should not share with the consular that "its cheaper to go to germany then austria" etc..they do not give a damn if its cheap for you or not. Keep it simple for them....Best of luck.

Hi, everyone. I have had some experience with this too. I am GC holder based on my asylum. I am using RTD to travel to Austria via Berlin. I purchased my ticket ahead of time and the lady at the Austrian Consulate in NY said that was OK. I agree though that they are REALLY rude there. In fact, the lady told me that it is such a hassle to issue visas for them especially those that have a RTD.

By the way, question for anyone: as PR do I HAVE to travel with an RTD?

I would say it is OK since there is no such a rule yet or I have not seen it.
But since as the name is Refugee Travel Document and you are no longer an asylee/Refugee so I would say try to not use it because people would think that you are a pour guy and some people give you hard time.
Benefits are you can go to Germany without any Visa on RTD.

Could you tell us where did you but ticket or any other info if you have?
BTW, I am going there tomorrow.

THanks
