Estimate Interview Date??

I filed the N-400 application earlier this month, while forgetting that I will be traveling from mid-Dec to mid-Jan on the East Coast... So, I am trying to see if there is any thing I can do to not a special trip back for the interview.

Do anyone know how USCIS determine the interview date (I am in SF, CA)? Does that depends on the NOA priority date or the date of FP (if I walk it for FP, will it push up the interview date)? Do anyone have an approximate idea? Also, how many days of head-up are they giving out before the interview?

Any hints will help. Thanks.

The average notice for interview gives candidates approximately 30 days notice to appear for interview. Estimating when your interview notice is going to be mailed to you is going to be a challenge, numerous factors affect the notice for interviews. Since you will be traveling, have you ever consider the fact that USCIS could send an RFE? Who is going to respond to it when you are traveling?

you should be getting your FP just before you leave (mid dec). I do not think your interview will be before your return( mid jan).

In case you get FP notice and it is scheduled after your date of proposed dep, you could try walk in. Without FP notice walk in is not possible. In the event you miss your FP date, you can reschedule on your return. It may not affect your interview date very much.

So, it seems that they just mailed out a RFE to me yesterday. I don't know what that is yet... (Fingerprint notice or something else??)
I plan to set up a temporary USPS mail forwarding service, so I can get my mail while I am away (and furnish whatever paper evidence I can).
In additional to fingerprint and interview, do they make me show up in person for something else? I try to avoid flying back during my vacation, but if they need me, then I will...

I looked around some threads about SF. It seems that some of people did do a walk in FP, so that isn't my main concern. I am more afraid that they schedule the interview while I am away.
I guess my best choice would be doing the FP as late as possible (but before I fly out) to minimize the chance of having the interview while I am gone... Agree??

Yes, it is a notice for Finger prints. USCIS mail cannot be forwarded, it can only be held. I don't remember ever getting a USCIS mail forwarding, so maybe someone else has had an experience with mail forwarding. I was on vacation last December and I had a mail hold request, which included by USCIS notice.

If they schedule your interview before you return mid-Jan, it would be within 9 weeks after you applied. It is rare to get an interview that fast.

You are right, I didn't realize that. I guess I will have the mail hold then...

Cool. I guess I just worry about this a bit too much.
