ESC* Receipt number not recognized

Hi all, I have a question and hope that someone can help me. My mom filed for citizenship in January 2008. She is currently out of the country on business and wanted to be able to check on the status of her application while she was away so she called the 800 number and punched in her receipt number when prompted. The number is in the format ESC*123456789. She punched in everything including the "*". The Automated voice said that it did not recognize the receipt number. She also went on the uscis website and the same thing happened. So has anyone else out there had this problem? There is just no way for her to access her file? Please help.
 
I'm not sure what could be the timeline for a citizenship application, but sometimes it could take a lot of time for the applications to show up online. I heard, for some, it does not show up until the very final stages of the application...
 
I have had the same issue - Checking the status online errored with a message was invalid .The next receipt had a new number ( I got that for my Biometrics appointment ) had a valid receipt number .
You could perhaps ask the service center to mail a new receipt.
