Errors on I797 - will it slow things down?

There are three information on the recipt - name, birthday and the address. Guess what? The only thing they typed right was the birthday. The name was totally misspelled and the address had a wrong city name! I am surprised the letter even got to us. Is this common?

Anyways, it has the 800 number that we are supposed to call to correct the errors. Do we need to pay anything to make the changes? Will it delay the process? We have to wait till tuesday to call and we don't even know if we'd get to talk to a live person.

I am not sure whether it will slow down things or not, but if I remember correctly the form asks you to verify the information and to notify them if there are any errors. I think all the information required is in the form, isn't it?

Infopass needed

If I were you I would schedule an infopass and talk to an information officer regarding this and confirm the name etc.

You can make an infopass by going to USCIS.com.

Good luck, let us know how things will go.

I called the 1 800 375 5283 today regarding my case and one of the options was for typos. You may want to try it.

Setting up an InfoPass at this point won't work. The reason is that during the early part of your application the N-400 form and all data is still with the Service Center, not at the your District Office. My understanding that InfoPass is good only when the file has been transferred to the DO. First call the 1-800- number. There is no fees for this..

Springbranch,

Thanks for letting me know that it was open today. I wouldn't have tried the number today otherwise.

We sat on the phone for hours this morning, took 3 people and some hang-ups. We were able to finally correct their errors. I was on the second phone listening to the converstation. I swear the second person either knew nothing about immigration or she just intentionally made it difficult. The typos were on the middle name, last name and the address. She said that we'd have to make an appointment for an interview before january 2nd with INS office in order to correct 'their' typos. He got frustrated and told her that the only things we wanted was to correct the errors on the paper. She wouldn't listen and kept repeating that the only way to correct was to get in line and have an appointment in person!!! She had a big attitude too. I kept telling him that he didn't want to be rude to INS officer or they could make it more difficult for us. He called back and (this time the wait time was less than 2 minutes, instead of over an hour), the nice lady took his information and corrected everything on the phone! ????!!! incredible. So my suggestion is to just say thank you, hung up the phone if the person is giving you hard time, and try again!

My file never made it to Houston District Office from Texas Service Center as of today 12/26/2006 and so far I have made 4 infopass including today's infopass since September and everytime I talked to an officer at the Houston District office, they were able to access to the file on the computer.

If I were you I would schedule an infopass and confirm that errors have been corrected just not to have a last minute surprise. USCIS is a place where right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Just my 2 cents.

infopass

I am not familiar with the team infopath. I went to the website and did a search but came up w/nothing. Can you tell me exactly what you did?? Thanks.
