I am an Indian citizen currently working in the US on an H1-B visa. I have applied for and received approved EAD and AP documents. However, there is a typo on my AP document as it states the incorrect date of expiration. It clearly is a typo as it shows up as 11/30/199?8US. This should be November 30, 2008. My wife and I both applied for the EAD and AP together (my Green Card Application was attached to hers). Her forms however have the accurate information on both EAD and AP.
We are going to be travelling for leisure on April 18th to Europe and just noticed this typo on the AP this week. We are trying to figure out the best recourse at this point. We have requested an appointment with InfoPass to see if they can issue a corrected AP for me. Do you know if they can do this through Info Pass and what information they require from us?
I know that the other option is to submit for a correction from the USCIS directly but from what I hear this can take months. So unfortunately this option wont work for us.
If the Info Pass does not work for us the other thing we are considering is making an appointment with the US Consulate in Bern, Switzerland where we will be visiting between May 4 - and May 9th, 2008 and a get an H1B Revalidation Stamp on my passport. I know it is recommended that we go to the home country or to canada, mexico, however, we dont have enough time to go to Canada before leaving for Europe on the 18th of April. We attempted to make an appointment in Canada but nothing was available at such short notice. Do you think it is OK to apply in the Bern US Consulate? Do you think we should ask the officer in our InfoPass appointment to provide a letter of some sort that we can take with us to Bern US COnsulate? I really look forward to hearing from you soon.
