Error in EAD card

Hello,

My husband received his ead card yesterday but there is an error. Sex on the card is "F" instead of "M".. The application was correct (I checked the copy). What is the process to get it corrected? Do we have to apply again? Will it take the same time to process. When we called INS, they asked us to apply again.

Is the card that we have usable now until we get the replacement card?

Anyone who has similar experience please respond.
Thanks

INS really sucks

My wife got her EAD; obviously she is "F" but EAD card says "M". INS needs to hire sane people.

I guess, this is a obvious mistake and should not be a problem. Anyway, talk to INS and find out what they have to say.

One other thing I could never understand. Why do INS has this phone customer service. Bozos over there either don't have any information and knowledge or they are unable to do anything.

second thing is why do they have such phone lines where u have to dail for at least an hour to get through. I think they should set up web service and email response service.

Just think of it, how much money INS will save by putting up a website just to check status.

The bottomline is "who cares about the immigrants".

Its just so frustrating..

We called INS again. They want another application. They say the reason is to track that a request was made to correct the info. They asked us to refer their website for fees. The web-site does NOT say that you dont have to pay fees if its an INS error.
So we called back. They say that if we can prove that its an INS error then we dont need to provide the fees. And thats what we are going to do. Send the photo-copy of the original application and file without the fees. They also gave INS address to complain.

Regarding using the current card, they said its upto the employer. If the employer has no issue with the error, then you can use it..

Does these people know the frustration of an Indian male not working for over 3.5 years! And when the card finally arrives comes there is error!!

How many of the people in this forum wants to see spouses get ead card for H4? I believe this can reduce some of the green card applications. And A LOT of frustrations esp for female H1 B visa holders

We got it earlier than normal

Well, due to the relatively fast movement of processing, he got his card (I am still waiting for mine) within 41 days (ND 7/16/02, EAD 8/26/02, Nebraska). So we didnt have to go to local office.
When we checked with INS regarding the error, they gave the local INS address, yet they said that the local INS office also will ask you to re-apply.

BTW, I talked to our lawyer and they say that this is a frequent INS error and its not something to worry about, and most employers are satisfied with the other supporting evidence. So we are going to use this card and see if there are any problems.

Most critical things are

1. Signature
2. Photo
3. A# and INS receipt number
4. Name (minor spelling mistakes ok)

M<->F thing is not material as it is an obvious mistake.
