My immigration situation:
I-140: Approved in June 2003
I-485: ND: 02/15/2003
EAD (1st): Valid until June 27, 2004
AP (2nd): Valid until April 15, 2005
EAD (2nd): ND: 04/09/2004

I departed from the US on April 26, 2004 with a valid EAD (at the time) and a new AP. I have been outside the US since then. Meanwhile my first EAD has expired (June 27, 2004) and my next EAD application is pending to date.

Give this status, I was wondering:

1. If a re-entry into the US with a valid AP (minus the new and valid EAD card) legal?
2. If it would it be wise to inform the officials at the POE about the pending EAD status, if asked for the card?

I would appreciate if anyone could provide the legal answers to these questions? Also I would appreciate it if you could share your re-entry experiences at O'Hare with AP docs.

Thanks in advance.

There is no direct connection between EAD and AP. One is a document allowing you to work in the US and the other is a document allowing you to leave and re-enter the US. There is no requirement to have an EAD to use AP.
