Entering US to study with B2 visa, but I have F1 visa later

Hello, here is my situation. I procrastinated and ended up receiving my i-20 too late (or rather, waiting to receive it) and I would like to go to my college for move-in date which is the 17th, but I probably will not get my receive my student visa until the 17th/18th. however, I do have a B2 visa...and I'm wondering if i enter the US with my B2 visa, and have my mom mail my student visa as soon as she gets back so I have my student visa in hand soon, what would happen? would I be allowed to study, and if i am, do i have to leave after 90 days because that's the duration of my b2 visa, however i would already have my student visa F1 with me by then, so can i stay?
 
im just wondering, did you apply for a F1 visa while you were here on a B2 or did you go abroad and applied the F1 but you have a B2 handy to come here as a tourist?
