Hi Guys,

I will be going for vacation out of the country and re-entering the U.S. using the I-551 stamp in my passport. Given how low-tech the I-551 stamp is, I am very concerned as to what other documents I need to carry to support the authenticity of the stamp? Could you please let me know... anyone recently travelled like that?

I have some other questions as well:

1. Will I have to undergo Secondary Inspection? What does that mean to the Port-of-Entry immigration process?

2. Do I need to fill in a new I-94 Form while entering the country?

3. At the port of entry, can I stand in the line for Permanent Residents and U.S. Citizens?

Thanks!

I did travel in feb to India on 551 stamp.based on my experience i can say please take copy of approval notice, your US driving license etc. On my way back to US at New Delhi I was asked to show US Driving License. On landing in US the process was smooth and on the whole it took 30 minutes.

Yes you will be subject to secondary inspection at the POE. This would mean that they will take you to another room and will have to wait for some time. Waiting time will largely depend on # of people ahead of you in line.
2. Do I need to fill in a new I-94 Form while entering the country?

NO new i-94 is needed.3. At the port of entry, can I stand in the line for Permanent Residents and U.S. Citizens?

Yeah Sure..Thanks!

I went to India in November 2004 with I-551 stamp. It was really smooth even though I carried a copy of approval notice. I had the Port of Entry in Chicago and I did not have any seconday inspection and rather the Port of entry officer asked me a couple of questions like my Mother's maiden name and my date of birth etc. That's it

There is no need for I-94's anymore
3. At the port of entry, can I stand in the line for Permanent Residents and U.S. Citizens?
Yes you can and I did the same Thanks!
