Folks, I'm planning to visit canada from US during the long weekend in Sept. I plan to go there in my friend's car who's got a tourist visa and I intend to finish my immig. formalities and then reutn back in a couple of days to the US. I hold a H1 visa. Since I'm on a contract here which ends only in May next year, I would be able to move permanently only in May. Would I have any problems while I enter Canada now since I'll be returning back in two days. Will the immig. officer let me back to the US even though I've stayed only for 2 days in the Canada? Your advise here will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

1. It seems that you are going to complete your CANADA Landing in your friends car, your H1b visa wiil be no problem for you.

Please keep the following with you:
Landing paper or IMM1000, Passport, Goods to follow list 2 copies write the value for each item in US$ or CDN if USD then make sure when they stamp the list they convert it in to CDN and check the paper that will be returnend to you.

Take 2 Passport Pictures with you, they are needed for PR card and be ready to give some friend or relative address for your PR card, they will mail your PR card on this address in 30-40 days inon Canadian address, tell them you will be staying on this address and do not mention that you are going to stay for 2 days or 2 weeks and they are not going to ask you, if they ask tell then more than 1 months to settle or rent some apartment in Canada and then you will be back to US to take your Stuff.

Make sure the address you provide of canada is correct and the friend is reliable who can recive your PR card in your absence and can mail you in US or you can collect it from him when you go to Canada next trip.

for entry to US from Canada you will have no problem just show your Valid H1B visa and valid I-94, INS will ask you for what you came to Canada and tell the truth " Landing" they can also make out from Canada immigration stemp.

Good Luck!!!

Thanks Inder, that really helped.
I've heard that entry into the US are refused sometimes while returning from Canada. Is it true? Is there any basis to reject entry into the US. I've all valid documents but still is it under the sole discretion of the immigration officer to let me inside US from canada?

Thanks again,

I forget to wrote that you should also take your recent US Bank statements to show the funds, better take 3 last months bank statements.

Yes it is refused for those H1B visa holders those who do not have Valid H1B Stamp on the passport and try to get stamping in Canada through US consulate in Canada IF they are rejected and can not get Visa Stamp then they can not enter US from Canada and they have to then get the US visa from home country

**But the INS officer is going by law and he/she is not against you, you have Valid H1B stamp in your passport and Valid I-94 and you are working in US, if they ask show them 2-3 recent paystubs, but I do not see any reason not to allow you in US,, when you come back just show your VISA page of passport, INS officer will ask you:
For what you went to Canada and how many days you were in Canada( tell the truth here and it has nothing to do with canada immigration)
what are you doing in US
have you baught anything from Canada

do not worry, just post your Landing Exp when you land or come back to US, it will help others.
Good Luck!!
