Hello guys,
My mother who is 65 year old is going to file N400 anytime soon. And I was wondering, if her english is not really good can it jeopardize the chance of being approved? She has the green card for about more than 5 years ago. I understand that if she gets the green card 15 years ago then she may waive the english requirement.
How many more chances will she be given for interview in case she fails the first one?
Do you think that the officer will expect her to know english very well?
She went to Adult school for about 3 years and I still notice that she still has difficulty understanding when having conversation with a native speaker.
I think she can memorize the civic and history questions and read and write basic english requirement. What I am worried about is the casual conversation with the Interviewer.
Does anyone know/have the experience like my mother has now?

Thank you

As long as she can answer to all the civics questions (6 out of 10) and can read and write the sentences given by the IO (the sentences are simple and consists the words and guide is available for practice), she should be fine. She also should be able to answer to the questions from N-400 form, for example: "have you been ever arrested/detained", "what is your full name" etc.

Also I am sure the IO will help her in understanding the question if she doesn't get it the first time. Usually they are very cooperative ...

Thank you for your note.
Do you think there is a significant difference for the interviewer having interviewing between a professional 30 yo applicant and a 65 yo old applicant like my mom?
And I understand she must go over application several times and understand it before the interview.
