English Exemption - Citizenship Interview

Hello everyone,

I have some questions about citizenship English exemption on the interview day. My mom met the criteria for it (55 years or older and has been in the US for 15 or more years). Because the N-400 allows her to apply early (3 months), so she applied. After she filed, she found out that the date they look at is the "Submit" date. Does anyone know what she should do? Do you think they'll let her take it in her native language if the interview day is way after the 15 years period?

Thanks for your help.
Gwen

When you wrote "been in the US for 15 or more years", do you mean she has been a permanent resident for 15 or more years? For that exemption criteria they only count years as a permanent resident, not years of being in the US.

The 90-day headstart only applies to the years of continuous residence, not to the 15 year requirement for the exemption. They will look at the filing date to decide if she completed 15 years, not the interview date. So she will have to take the test in English.
