Employment while N400 pending

Reading from few other posts in the past, I understand that naturalization has almost no relation with employment at the time of N400 processing. While the N400 application is pending, am I free to take a job offer outside USA? To clarify, I will continue to reside at my current home, and will commute to this country (say Japan for example)?
The question I have is, does accepting an employement offer from another country automatically mean I have abandoned my GC or these two have no connection, as long as I am maintaining my residence (by making short trips for business and living here physically rest of the time and working from home.)

Thanks in advance for your kind help.

Regards,

Hi Joef,
Thanks for your input. I agree commute is not the right word here and of course tax situation is something that I have not even thought of. Life will certainly be complicated.

I just wanted to make sure working for a company outside USA does not automatically mean I have abandoned GC in the eyes of USCIS. Do you agree?
