Employment Status between 485 approval and stamping

Hi All:

Here is my query:

I was wondering what the status of a person from work-permit
point of view between 485 approval and stamping.

My understanding is that the H1B expires immediately the 485 approval
while one cannot get the benefits (such as employment) of permenant
residency till I551 stamping on the passport.

Any input in this matter is immensely appreciated.

You are a permanent resident from the day of your I-485 approval.
Stamping and plastic green card are the "proof of your permament residentship". Not having them does not make any difference for your perm residency.
