Does one need to be employed for all the years when applying for citizenship?
I read on the forum, officer checking for employment for all the years?
I thouht employment is an option, and one can be unemployed if want to,
as long as he can pay the expenses from his prior savings and did not earn money illegally?

on the n400 forms, it asked you to list out all employments 5 yrs prior to the date you filed N400 form. I am not aware of listing "all years" thou.

the officer just wants to make sure you filed your income tax, even thought you were unemployed, and wanted to check how you could support yourself while being unemployed. you just need to show the proof.

Based on what I read in the forums and also information in the CIS web site, employment history in the past 5 years is the key. But if one got his GC based on employment, the officer could be asking him about his emp history following the receipt of his GC at the interview -- to make sure his PR application wasn't a fraud. Personally, the issue of how long after the receipt of GC interests me (some say 6 mos some say 1 yr etc.)

But I don't believe one has to be employed without any lapse as far as he does not become a public charge.
