Emergency Travel out of USA when on OPT and H1B is approved

I was reading following query on your site.

I have exact similar problem. My OPT ends by Nov 17th 2006 and my H1B petition is already approved. I need to travel on emergency to India and need to know if I will be able to re-enter in USA on my OPT. All H1B stamping appointments in India are booked until Jan 2007, which means I have to return on my student visa to USA,

Can some one please answer my question ASAP. THIS IS REALLY URGENT.

There are emergency slots available at each embassy in India. Please enquire about those. Since you are already working in USA, your category for "Emergency Appointment" will be "Returning Workers". I had similar question and the US Embassy at Mumbai advised me to schedule emergency appointment through VFS (Visa Facilitation Services).
