Hi,

I got my usa citizenship and then i finished the part A of the OCI application. Now due to emergency i have to fly to india because of moms illness. I got my tickets yesterday and then found out i had to apply for a tourist visa. So i finished the application online and then in end it said i had to fill the Renunciation Form (http://indiavisa.travisaoutsourcing.com/pdf/renunciation.pdf) and tells me to submit my india passport.

Will that affect my OCI. Because i have read when i complete the Part B and sent the copies of the passport they also want me to mail in both passports for the OCI ticket.

Can someone tell me if my OCI application will be affected because of my visa

Thank you,

Todd

Sorry I have no idea, call the USCIS and book info pass too

Also contact the Indian consulate in the USA, whilst they cannot interfer with US immigration laws, they maybe able to assist in an emergency

I don't think you should have a problem if you get your Indian passport canceled now. It will be returned to you along with your US passport and will just have a stamp on it saying "canceled". For OCI all they require is a copy of the Indian passport (it doesn't matter if it is canceled) as proof of your former status as Indian citizen. You don't really have to send in your Indian passport along with the US passport to get OCI but most people do that because this is the first opportunity they get to cancel their Indian passport.

Your local Indian consulate/embassy will be able to help you with this. If you explain the emergency by visiting them personally, your tourist visa can be issued the same day, in most cases.

Also, it appears from your original post, that you have not yet filed for your OCI visa. The OCI is a visa for life and is completely independent of other visas and they don't affect each other.
