I live in Chicago and my 485 is pending with Vermont. At present, I am in San Jose on a short project.
Thursday night, I got bad news that my father-in-law has passed away.
I have decided to send my wife immediately to India. Then I realized that we neither have current H1/H4 stamp nor valid AP.
Based on my friend's advice, I went to San Jose INS office and explained the situation and showed the fax copy of death certificate. The officer's were so nice w/o asking a single question they have issued 60 days single entry AP. The office didn't even charge for that service.
This give me the belief that there are officers in the INS who really helps when it is needed.
