I am living my worst nightmare -- my father is sick, and I can't get home! Can I get emergency AP from the Boston office?

It sure sucks to be so far away from home. Maybe we can offshore the whole country next to India?

I havent had to do this. But I have heard, the answer is YES.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, hope all is well.

Sincerely,
Ramesh.

While I don't want to discourage you ...

Myself and my spouse went to apply for an AP on Wed. Nov 26. After waiting in line and in the waiting room for close to 4 hours, the officer said that "this office cannot process advance paroles" We kept insisting and he went inside supposedly to confer with his "manager" and came back and replied in the negative. We were to go to attend my wife's grandmother's funeral. Also my wife was planning on staying back longer because of her father's health..

You can still take your chances...and do let us know if u succeed

What office was this at?

Regarding the New England area, I believe though the 485 is files in Vermont, the AP is to be collected from Boston.

This was at the JFK building office in the city of Boston. Our 485 is with the Vermont service center and we were asked to file the AP at Vermont. The officer also said that we could try and send a letter with the application asking them to expedite the processing. We are going to do so on Monday

Oh ok. Only for emergencies you can collect it from the Boston office. For regular AP, you need to apply for it to the Vermont office, and it will take about 2 months to arrive in the mail.

If a close family member's death and health conditions of a parent doesn't constitute an emergency, what does ??!!

That is just so weird. This is a quote from the US Immigration website here
"Q2. Who needs Advance Parole?

A2. Aliens in the United States who have an emergent personal or bona fide reason to travel temporarily abroad and who have:

An application for adjustment of status pending;
Been granted benefits under the Family Unity Program;
Been granted Temporary Protected Status; or
An asylum application pending.
Note: Aliens holding valid H-1 (temporary worker in a specialty occupation) or L-1 (intra-company transferee) visas and their dependants who have filed for adjustment of status do not have to file for Advance Parole as long as they maintain their non-immigrant status.
"

That clearly indicates bonafide or emergent personal reason, so how is it that Boston is not giving AP's ?

But I guess, you could see that they have are following the letter of the law and not the spirit. The form 131 specifies where you should file on page 4 : here
" If you filed at a CIS field office to adjust your
status as a permanent resident, submit or mail this
application to that office according to its filing
procedures. "
