The term emergency is used in a broad meaning at USCIS.

If your company can provide a letter saying that you have to be out of the country for a meeting/conference a 'temp' AP may be granted. But if you ask a 'temp' AP vali for a year, USCIS personnel might get suspicious and may deny your request.

Other emrgencies could be family emrgencies like divorce, demise etc., medical operation for self, notice to appear in a court in your native country etc.

many use the illness / demise as a reason. The documents for that would be a letter from your family members and a death certificate if available.

In case of illness in family, Health report from a doctor and a letter from a family member.

But I need to add that issuance of temp AP is at the discretion of the official you meet with!
