POLICE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATES
All Immigrant Visa applicants age 16 and over are required to present Police Clearance Certificates from EVERY country in which they have resided for one year or more and six months or more, from their home country, as detailed below:
Indian Citizens Age 16 and Older Residing In India:
§ ALL Indian citizens age 16 and over currently residing in India, who have a passport issued MORE THAN six months prior to their interview date, should obtain a police clearance certificate from both the nearest Indian Passport Office and the District Police in the area in which they reside.
§ ALL Indian citizens age 16 and over currently residing in India, who have a passport issued LESS THAN six months prior to their interview date, only need a police clearance certificate from the nearest Indian Passport Office in the area in which they reside.
Indian Citizens Age 16 and Older Who Live Outside of India:
Indian citizens age 16 and older who live outside of India should obtain a statement from the Indian Embassy or Consulate serving the area in which they are residing confirming that they have no criminal record. They will also need to obtain a Police Clearance from the country in which they live, as detailed below.
Non-Indian Citizens Residing In India:
§ Citizens of other countries residing in India should obtain police clearance certificates from the District Police Station serving the area where they reside AND from any country, including their home country, in which they have resided for one year or more. For details on how to obtain these, please contact the nearest Consulate or Embassy of the country in which you have resided.
All Applicants Who Have Resided In Any Other Country for One Year or More:
§ All Immigrant Visa applicants who have resided in any country outside of India for 12 months or more while age 16 or over are required to present a police clearance certificate from that country, even if it is their home country. For additional information, see:http://travel.state.gov/reciprocity/country_pick.htm. To find information for the country in which you lived, click on letter at the top that represents the first letter of the country in which you lived. For details on how to obtain a police clearance certificate, please contact the nearest Consulate or Embassy of the country in which you have lived.
NOTE: Police clearance certificates are not required for applicants under age 16.
