Eligible for unemployement insurance ?

HI,
I was working on a H1-B visa in the state of CA and got laid off 2 months back. My last day on payroll with my company is May 12, 2006.
I was added on to my husband's green card processing around a year and a half back and have a valid EAD and an I-485 AOS pending. I-140 for my husband is approved.
I am finding it hard to find another job in the same city and I was wondering if:

1. I am eligible to apply for unemployement insurance ? I always worked on my H1 though I have had an EAD for more than year.

2. Will applying for unemployement insurance affect our green card application or future INS applications ?

Thanks for your help
