Eligibility to apply for Citizenship

Hi,

I will complete 5 years of perm. residency in August '05. I have noticed some timelines for the citizenship, looks like it takes anywhere from 8 - 12 months or more.

Is it OK to apply for citizenship prior to the 5 year mark? Any help in this regard is highly appreciated.

thanks

Hello Ravitejax

Yes you should be able to. I just sent in my application (yesterday), today is my 5 yrs-90 days.

I would recommend go through the posts in this forum. I found them very helpful and prepared my materials based on this research.

Prepare all the materials that is needed, send you application the day you are eligible to apply. Few tips: download N-400, instructions, go through the document checklist, get information on tickets etc. and voila u r set.

All the best

Only send them 4 items at first for which they HAVE to accept your N-400 application:
1. N-400 app
2. Fee
3. Photos
4. Front and back of your PR card

Bring all partinent documents to the interview (such as SSS docs, etc.). Only give the officer what he/she asks for at the interview. No need to send a huge set of docs with your N-400 filing.

Not entirely true. You must send original traffic citations , tax records (if period of absence > 1 yr) etc. Ofcourse you can take it with you to the interview, but if you got it - send it

Thanks Rahul

I just posted my packet on Monday. But I did not include traffic citations.
Interestingly the county where I was ticketed (1996) no longer has records older than 3 years. Another violation and I did not have the citation as they
took my original in the court. So I had to pay the court 5 dollars to get a copy of the citation.

Anyway but I do like your idea of submitting the originals.

Rahul: Thanks for providing timely advices. We all appreciate it.

Regards
RR
