Eligibility for US citizenship after how many years with green card?

I have heard that you can apply for US citizenship 4 years and 9 months after the date of your I485 approval. Is this accurate? Once you apply, how long does it take for approval of citizenship? Can I travel outside the US in this interim period? Would citizenship be given only after the final oath is taken? How long (typically) does it take to go from applying for citizenship to actually taking the oath?

The minimum required presence in the US is 30 months in the preceding five years with no single period exceeding 6 months (this is to satisfy the minimum presence required). Is this accurate?

Thanks

I will answer briefly:
1. 5 years minus 90 days after the date on your GC. assuming all other requirements are met.
2. You may travel outside the US but must maintain your eligibility.
3. Only after you take oath.
4. Depends on your DO. see Uscis website for current PD's.
5.In some circumstances you may be allowed to be out of the US for between 6 months and 1 year, but then you must provide ample prrof that you have not severed your ties withthe US.

I suggest you read the Guide to Naturalization thouroughly. (Won;t hurt if you read it twice). There are meny more details which it is advisabe for you to know and they are all written there. The guide can be downloaded at www.uscis.gov

When somebody leaves US for over a year, this person can apply for citizenship 4 years and 1 day after coming back. (4 years + 1 day rule)
