eligibility for naturalization

Hi,

I have had GC for 5 yrs. However I went to med school in India after taking 2 yr re entry permit from INS. During this time my permanent address was in the US.
My continuous stay in the US is 24 months now. As I never worked in the US I have had no taxes filed, but for the last 2 yrs I have filed joint tax returns with my spouse.

CanI apply for citizenship ?
Any suggestions about the evidence I can present regarding my stay.

You are eligible to apply for citizen after 4 years and one day from the day you re-entered.

Even if you had no income you are required to file taxes.

Get ready to submit proof that u had no income during that time , US or otherwise. And you may have to give a detailed explanation on why u did not file...
