Effect of new passport on I-485

Hi Guys,

I need your expert opinion on my situation. My current passport has validity of 20 yrs, which I believe is not permitted as per International Passport Standards. So as advised by Indian Embassy, I have applied for a new passport with a validity of 10 yrs. I was informed that my current passport would be cancelled, with my H1-B visas intact, and that I would have to carry both the passports.

What is the impact of the change in my passport information on the pending I-140 and I-485 applications?

I would really appreciate your comments or suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

who says that if the PP is for 20 years it's not valid. I have my Indian PP from 1997 which is valid until 2017.

This is news to me.

eternal_labor,

as far as i know, u r under no obligation to notify uscis of ur new passport unless u have to submit it as a required document for an application. For example, if you were to apply for EAD, AP or go for fingerprinting and showed your passport.
