Anybody has idea that if we are eligible to get some kind of educational loan?

If yes where and how we can apply?

2.
Do we have right to get instate tuition rate?

Thanks in an advance!

Hmmm, I don't think that you can easily get loans for education these days. Many states are in budget deficit. If you are extremely bright, you may want to apply for loans from private sectors.
Otherwise, the priority is always for US Citizens, my friend ...
You *may* be able to get general loans from banks though, but the rate is killing.

For the in-state tuition rate, check with the Administration or Bursar office of the university or college you plan to attend.

1. NO

2. NO

Know this from personal experience. Fed approved the loan but the INS rejected it because of H-4 status.

YES

YES.

From my own experience from Univ. of Texas, I did get the loan from Nellae May and another company. Rate being 8.2% or less. You do have your A# on your receipt.

I do get instate tuition fees as I have been 'residing in the state for reasons other than seeking education' for the last one year. If you are in H1 status or EAD status, you do qualify for resident fees. DO NOT go to the bursars office to find out. Do your own research first, the bursars office will, without any doubt, term you as an international student. I did check with the the state regulations for residency requirements and applied by their rules.

For others... Please do not comment on something that you are not sure of. Assumptions are dangerous things.

thanks!

Yesterday I did research about this instate tution. EAD is sufficent to get instate if you are staying in that state for more than one year and pay tax for the state.

But I dont know if I get educational loan or not.

Sunny J. what is the range of loan you get from company like Nellae May???

Thanks all who have responded!

Sunny,
Is this rule applied for every state OR just Texas ?
I am living in NJ for 6 yrs and my wife for over a year. When we applied recently(couple of weeks back) to a univesity in NJ, they said that we need a GC or citizenship to be classified as a resident. (we both have EAD's) So, I had to pay 50% more fees to join a course for my wife.
Where do we find information on this ?
TIA :)

Hello Abhaya_Abhaya

In which school did u research?

My spouse wanted to study at Rutgers University at NJ but their policy is different. see below.

Noncitizens who are in the U.S. with resident immigrant visas or special refugee visas (i.e., holders of either the Alien Registration Receipt Card (green card), I-551, I-151, I-94 with refugee status or asylum granted) or eligible visa classifications (A, E, or G) will be considered the same as U.S. citizens for purposes of assessing tuition. Other noncitizens who are in the U.S. on temporary visas (not permitted to establish a legal domicile in the U.S.), such as B, C, D, F, H, I, J, K, L, M, R, TN, TD, NATO classifications, or holders of the Employment Authorization Card, are classified as nonresidents for tuition assessment regardless of how long they have been residing in New Jersey.

let me know anyone residing in NJ and know more about it.

Thanks

Can I be a cosignee of an F1 visa holder for a federal educational loan while in AOS

I am in AOS phase since over a year. My brother is on an F-1 visa and needs an educational loan.

Can I be a co-signee for him to get an educational loan from orginizations like Sally Mae.

If it's possible, what are our prospects of loan application getting approved.

Do our prospects increase with my 485 approval?

How many people can I be a cosignee for?

Any information you share will be highly appreciated.

VA!!!

I am talking about state, VA. I went to George Mason University and Virgina Tech. @ falls church. From them I got this infromation. I know one of my friend who is paying instate at geroge Mason University. His current status in 485 pending.

May be different state has different law.

As I said in my earlier comments, each state is different. Every educational institution has its own policies, especially with regard to money.
Same thing applies to private loans. In terms of risk assesment, US Citizens and GC holders will always get higher points.
Even when things were good 3 or 4 years ago, many private loans required US Citizen or GC Holders as a co-signee.

It doesn't hurt to ask the Administration/Financial office directly. Things change everyday, what worked yesterday may no longer work anymore....
