Here is the politicals analysis of immigration in house and senate on washingtonpost. It is the most read paper "inside the beltway". (Wash DC).

There is no mention about legal immigration. One can only gather that:

1. Majority of americans think about immigrations and then are for or against illegals. When it comes to legals, no-one even asks any questions whether they are for or against it. We are not on the radar of general populace.

2. The house has obtained political cover with its actions in 2005 for their next election so in 2006, the house does not have an incentive to act tough on immigration or do anything about it. Meaning: House does not have incentive to push for comprehensive immigration bill in 2006.

3. Immigration is fourth in average american's priority, after Iraq, Economy and healthcare. That is not bad. Number 4 is not bad at all.

4. Senate is going to push for legalizing illegals. House is going to oppose it. IN THAT NOISE, if keep quiet, we will be stampeded and dead. SPEAK NOW.

Go to immigrationvoice.org and contribute in terms of time, ideas, volunteering and money. Read the forums. Read the objectives of the mission. See if you can relate to it. If not, you can always ignore it and going about your day.
