EB1 extraordinary ability

I am quite the novice in the area of immigration. I was wondering if somebody could provide some help with regards to the following issues:

1. Does being on an O-1 visa help in any way with regards to obtaining approval for EB1 in the Extraordinary ability category?

2. Once you apply in the EB1 category, can you leave the U.S. before it has been approved?

3. My wife is on a O-3 visa. Do I need to apply for her as well or is it enough if I am approved?

1) Generally, they have the same criteria but the level is set much higher for the EB1

2) Yes, as long as your status allows dual intent

3) When approved or along with your I-485 if you decide to file it early.
