Any one in this category please update this thread.

I have Masters Degree and 3 years of Research & Development experience with a Research Institute of Indian Government. I have
ONE Research papers published in Indian Journals.
Three papers Presented and published in National Symposium.
ONE Paper Presented and published in National workshop.

After that I moved to USA with a US based computer company with job responsibility of Research, Design and Develop computer applications, and had total over 8 years of experience.

Do you think that I have strong enough case to apply under this category?

Thanks
KGP.

You may need to consult an experienced lawyer even though you do self-petition finally.

They do have EB2/1 requirements.

First of all check it out on USCIS web site.
here on immigration.com or
murthy.com or
visapro.com

They have good docs.

Second. don't guess/or compare other cases with u here what to do second.

Use google search or any one. try to find 'Forigener Education Evaulation' services near by u, if possible ask them if they are approved by INS if not don't worry. let them evalute ur EDU+Exp. they do know all stuff about INS requirments so don't worry, just ask them to mention in summry that u do qualify... thats it :D

They would give u certificate and summry then u can compare USCIS requirement. once u have confidence. go ahead find a good attorney use aila.org and let them deal. some time saving some $ cost more than u save.

Btw here are many ppl who filed in EB1/2 use search engine and type EB1 or EB2 ... I remember one person good and cooperative u can find name 'Kishan_Patel' he is not in ur field I believe he is prof. anyway ....

We all welcome u on this forum, feel free to post questions. and if possible help ppl by sharing ur exp and knowledge. :D

Wish u good luck :D

I could have filed under EB1 but chose the more safer EB2 route. I have a PhD and over 30 publications etc. I know of people who went the EB1 route and took longer time than mine to get GC. I got my green card in 9 months from start of processing. If you do decide to go the EB1 route, make sure your lawyer has a good track record of EB1 approvals. Good luck.

Because approval timeframe for I-140 in EB1 and EB2 are more or less same. Only extra time EB2 takes is for LC filing. Waiting time for EB2 LC is not that long.

In last three years, only painful stage of GC has was I-485 stage due to backlog. And there is no preference in I-485 - EB1, EB2, EB3 they all go to same queue. Due to this reason many people preferred consular processing to skip that backlog.

But in recent days EB categories become more important factor due to priority date retrogression.

Eb1

I did EB1 with out any lawyer help. It is not a big deal, but takes lot of time. I am a medium level school professor. I got I-140 level approval in five months, but for I-485 my papers are stuck for last two years and two months. Any ideas??

Why not try?

Hi, my opinion is to try it. It's not going to hurt anyway. The problem is, like POJ said, you need to research the requirements of EB-1a first on both USCIS and non-official wbsites getting adequate info on what you need to express, how to express, then tailor your experience, ability, benefit and future benefit to the US nationally into the form that USCIS formally can receive and accept. Preparation does take as long as a couple of months. Nonetheless, approval of EB1-a's I-485 seems like taking longer than other categories. The better idea is to go for both EB-1a and NIW.
