Early FP in Houston

My wife and I got early FP today in Houston office. Our scheduled date was for 5/14. We did not have any problem and the whole process took us about 30 mins. What should I expect next? Will I get any updates when INS receives the FP results? How long does it take?

INS will probably receive the FP results the same day. Your LUD might change when that happens. Check it the next day. You can expect your approval in 1-2 months.

Did your LUD change?

ShadyHtown,
Did your LUD change after the early FP?
Mine did not. For that matter, my 140 did not change even when it was approved !!

Yes mine changed just once - the very next day. After that it hasn't changed. Later I called FBI and found that the results had been returned the very same day, so I realized the LUD change was probably only to reflect that FP results had been received. But since my PD isn't current, there was no other activity since. I'm epecting some LUD changes once May starts and my PD becomes current and processing resumes.

The last update changed today (4/19/05). Maybe the FBI results were received today. Does that mean the Name Check is completed? I noticed some people have had problems with Name Check

The name-check issue is confusing. Some people say that results are received together only after name-check is completed. Some say that the initial results are only for fingerprints, and name-check results will be returned later. I guess it varies. Though I've seen in recent times that people have got their approvals in 1 - 1.5 months after doing FP.

Name check and finger print results are two different issues. They can be scheduled at different times and are completely independent of each other. For us, the name check was completed with in the first few months of our notice date (details in my signature), but had to wait two years for our FPs to be scheduled.

The general rule of thumb is, if your name check is completed you can expect your approval (or RFE) in less than a couple of months after you give your Fingerprints.

How do I check my name check status?
Whats the FBI email? I sent an email to this address fbinncp@ic.fbi.gov and it bounced back with this email.

Looks like they disabled that e-mail address b'cos of the large number of requests. I used that email address to find out about my name check status in Oct 2004.

When the FP results are sent to INS does the status change? like 'On xx-xx-xxxx date the FP results are received'? Some people seem to have had such changes. Also, many people mention (in their signature) that FBI name check cleared on xx-xx-xxxx, how can I find out if my name check is completed? Does the status change to indicate that?

Yes, when FP results are received by the service center from FBI, usually the message changes to some thing like "we recieved the results of your Fingerprints and processing has resumed ...". I say "usually", b'cos there are quite a few people who reported that their message didn't change after FP was done (including us).

When the name check results are recieved by the service center there is no message change. I am not sure about the "Last Update Date" though.

Hope this helps.

How did you find out then, that your name check was done on Jan 2003? Did you write USCIS or FBI an e-mail, or call them?

What's the quickest way to find out about name check? Should I call USCIS and ask about my name check status? Or should I call the FBI Fingerprint number (the same one I had called for my fingerprints - they said those were returned the same day), and ask them if my name check is cleared.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I sent an email to fbinncp@ic.fbi.gov in oct and in Nov of last year. I got responses to both emails. Looks like this email address is now disabled.

I don't know if there is a way to find out about your name check now. When I called the FBI Fingerprint number, I asked the lady who answered my call about my name check. She said she does not have that information and asked me to send an email to fbinncp@ic.fbi.gov. May be you can call the FBI fingerprint number and ask them about your name check. The other option is to contact your congressman or senator and have them find it out for you.
