Hi Everyone,

I have applied for my 485 application a month back. What is the earliest time, I can start doing my private business (I will still be working full-time at my current green card sponsoring company).

Thanks,
SK...

As soon as you have an EAD you can start working for it. Anyone can start a business, you just can't work for it until you have work authorization from the INS. That would be your green card, and EAD, or an H1-B specifically for the business you've started.

You may be asking yourself "how can I start a business and not work for it?". You invest the money to get the business going, but hire staff to run it. You are really just an investor in the company at this point.

Been there, done it, got the t-shirt.

So do I have to show the EAD to someone before starting my own company? How does the whole process work? Any good websites explaining this process?

Thanks...
SK...

No, you don't have to show it to anybody. But once you use the EAD, you lose your H1-B status (if you are still on an H1-B). If this is the case, you will have to switch to the EAD with your current employer.

This particular message board has some good info under the "Starting and Doing Business in the US" section. As well, there is a lot of good, free information if you do a search on "Starting a Business".
