Earliest Date to Apply for Citizenship

Hello -

Both my spouse and I got our GC in Jan 2000, when are we eligible to file for N400 application? We were told becasue of a election year next year, usually the N400 application gets processed faster for eligible who are +/- 3 months on either side. (for abvious resons)

5 years from the date (on the GC. But not on the day the actual card is received).

You can actually apply 90 days before your 5th year anniversary. So, in this case, you can apply sometime in October 2004, depending on when exactly you became a permanent resident in Jan 2000. As such, you would unfortunately not make it for the 2004 election.
