EAD Status with 485 cancelled

All,

A friend of mine is having this issue:

1) He is on EAD and been working for sometime and it is valid till Mar '06.
2) For some reason, his 485 is cancelled; he is still trying to figure out why.

Does this mean he is out of status? or is he in status till Mar '06 (expiration of EAD)? So that he has some time to figure out what is happening and correct that.

Any and all help is appreciated.

If the I-485 is denied his EAD is NO LONGER valid. His AP will not be valid either. Tell him to get a good lawyer.
Did he get a NOID (notice of denial) ???????
If he doesn't have a valid H-1B etc he is out of status. Ouch.
Was his I-140 approved???
