EAD status between jobs

I am on my EAD currently with more than 180 days passed since my AOS application, and my I140 already approved. If I am laid off from my sponsoring company, how much time do I have on my EAD status to change companies. Am I out of status if I am laid off, i.e. do I need to be employed on all days of my EAD status, or can I stay unemployed? Is there a period of unemployment that is allowed before the job change?

If I-485 pending 180 days or more, and I-140 approved you are safe to change employers under AC-21. You can remain unemployed until time your I-485 is adjudicated. You are not out of status.

You should get same or similar job as soon as possible. In case CIS generates RFE you will be in trouble. Although there is no specific time duration you need to get a job ASAP.
 
Thank you both for your responses. Actually, I am not laid off, it is just a possibility since it looks like my project might be cancelled. I am trying to figure out if I should start looking because I do like the company I work for and have no complaints. I wont be starving either if I lose my job, so wouldnt mind being unemployed for a while and taking a break! Am not married, so no one is depending on me. Just dont want to be out of status as a result of not having the job.

Is there a specific reason why CIS would issue an RFE -- is this common for I485 adjudication?
