Hi! Friends!

I-485: Application Receipt date: October, 2007 - Pending
I-131: Application Receipt date: October, 2007 - Approved - Expires in October 2nd Week.
I-765: Application Receipt date: October, 2007 - Approved - Expires in Oct 2nd week.
Applied for EAD and AP renewal (Paper based application) -Receipt date: July 9, 2008

Received Notice from USCIS - Details given below:
Received Notices with returned check. Receipt Number starts with MSC (NOT EAC or SRC). What does MSC means? Also tried case status online and ended up with Error message - Receipt Number not found. Is my application in process or rejected? - Any any idea on this?

This is what I got in Receipt Notice:
--------------------------------------------------
Recently, you submitted an application for immigration benefits. That form was submitted with an extra remittance that is not required to process your application, or the incorrect fee was submitted. Your check is being returned to you with this notice. No additional action by you is required at this time. Please comply with any other reject notice you may receive.
-------------------------------------------------

I don't know what exactly is problem with application/ fee?

Is it because; I applied I-485, AP and EAD after July 30, 2007; as application fee for EAD and AP not required for I-485 applications filed after July 30, 2007?

Mean while got Fingerprint notice. Scheduled in 2nd week of August.

Appreciate your help.

Regards

I never heard of receipt number starting with MSC ... Which service center is that? I appears that your case was under the new fee structure - no fee is required for the EAD renewal, that's why your check was returned.

I check online after reading your post and found the following:

The first three letters of the receipt number will indicate what office created processed the application or immigrant visa. WAC = California Service Center. LIN = Nebraska Service Center. EAC = Vermont Service Center. SRC = Texas Service Center. MSC = National Benefits Center.

MSC is National Benefits Center

Bad thing is could not check online with receipt number. Returned with error message as "Could not find" - Try again with correct receipt number.

Which fee did you pay to start???

My understanding was (and I quote from the USCIS fee schedule "Adjustment applications and ancillary benefits – The new application fee for an I-485 is a package fee that includes associated EAD and advance parole applications. Thus, if you file an I-485 with the fee listed above, while you will still need to submit applications for an EAD and advance parole, you will not need to pay a separate fee so long as your adjustment application is pending. However, if you filed your I-485 before this fee change, to apply for or renew your EAD or advance parole, you must file a new application with the new fee for those applications

So since I did not pay the new fee package deal of $1010 , although I filed after the new fee went into effect on July 30, I still had to pay the $340 for EAD renewal and $305 for AP.
The only people who do not send in any $$ with renewal are the people that paid the new fee of $1010 after July 30 to start with.
That's what I have been told and from reading up on the boards.
So my question is, did you pay the $1010 fee after July 30, or did you just paid the per form fee (seperate for 485, 131 and 765) ?

New Fee Structure

Hi! Sorry for late reply. Spoke to HR and found that they paid $1010 when they filed my I-485. Application sent in Aug 2007; however USCIS processed it on Oct 4, 2007.

Any idea why they sent checks back? Also my EAD application receipt number starts with MSC. When I checked on-line for case status, got error message saying Receipt Number not found.

Appreciate your help.

Best Regards

The $1010 includes unlimited EAD renewals, so they're supposed to send back any additional checks for EAD. It's a good thing they gave you a receipt notice instead of rejecting the application itself.
