EAD renewal vs initial EAD

I thought initial EAD may take more time than a renewal EAD as now a days it is given after a prelim scrutiny of the 140 petition.
It helps if your 140 is allready approved.

But for a friend of mine this was not so. Initial EAD came in about 60 days.And 140 is still pending.

I thought EAD was issued after filing 485. Maybe your friend filed 140 and 485 together.

My I-485 was filed 14 months ago, April 2002. But EAD was not filed by my company . I applied for it last month RD May 20. Maybe another 3-4 weeks should be a good estimate then.

My understanding about EAD/AP and 485( and 140 when filed concurrently with 485) is that they are all processed seperately. As a matter of fact, one doesn't have to file for EAd or AP while filing 485/140. So the processing for EAD should be the same , excepting during Dec 2002, EAD renewals at Vermont were taking a little too long. I believe that was due to some changes in process.

Bottom line, EAD approval and renewal time should be same excepting for any change inprocess which takes place at diff times.

I know this is vague but I guess the whole GC process is vague.

My EAD card received

Me too didn't apply for EAD when I filed my 485 in April 2002.

I applied it April'03 Lastweek for first time.

RD : 02 May'03

This was approved on 09/06

And I recived my card 06/16.
