EAD renewal Q

Don't spite me for posting an EAD question on a 485 board, because in my mind these 2 are related (EAD is foster child of 485 ;-)

Q: I am currently using my EAD (expires in Aug 2003) to work. My H 6 years come to an end in Dec 2003. I intend to apply for EAD renewal in the coming week or so. In case that I don't get my EAD renewed before my current one expires (a likely possibility given the CSC's current processing times), what are my options to avoid breaks in my employment and minimizing the risks of gettting RFE's for my GC process?

A. Revert back to using H and that way I get 4 additional months to wait on getting my renewed EAD. I don't know if this is possible to do though.

B. Get some kind of interim EAD (i-EAD) from somewhere(?) by showing the receipt notice for EAD renewal. I don't know if this is an option though.

C. Sit at home and wait for EAD to come. I don't know if this jeopardizes my status and/or my GC process.

Any inputs would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

Its good to apply for EAD renewal now itself. You can apply for a renewal 6 months in advance. However, if your renewal doesn't get approved before your original EAD expires, you can go to your local INS office for an interim EAD. As a matter of fact, you can go for your intermin EAD after 90 calendar days from your notice receipt date. But, its better to go later towards the date of expiration of your current EAD as I have seen cases in this board in which the INS officers ask applicants who came much earlier, to come back at a later date.

1. Apply for EAD extension in 3-4 months in advance (If you apply too early there is a chance that INS may reject it saying it is too early, it did happen to couple of people on this board).
2. One can go to local INS and get an iEAD (if not approved, and no RFE) after 90 days of filing (sure it is an option). Didn't see any case on this board in case of CSC, who couldn't get iEAD after 90 days (unless the case is already approved or got an RFE etc).
3. Once one starts using EAD, I am not sure if it is that easy to switch back to H1! Talk to an attorney, may be one need to file for fresh H1 extension and wait until that extension is approved before taking up a job on H1!
