In my case, paper filed renewal EAD from NSC was approved in < 25 days.
There are others with such times as well.
Am assuming u are filing in NSC as well .....
So, if you are not using EAD to work, you can file within 45 days or so of expiry.
If you are using EAD to work, its still better to file 90 days before to use i-EAD if ever needed.
